VARIABLE SPEED ENGINES

Engines that adapt their speed to the load — less fuel, less noise, longer lifespan

WHAT IS A VARIABLE SPEED ENGINE?

How is it different?

A variable speed engine does not operate at a fixed RPM. Its speed is continuously adjusted by an electronic control unit (ECU) to match the current power demand. This makes it fundamentally more efficient than conventional fixed-speed engines — which run at full fuel consumption and full noise levels even under low load.

ENGINE STRUCTURE

What are the main components?

A variable speed engine is an internal combustion engine designed and tuned for efficient operation across a wide RPM range — typically from approximately 1,500 RPM at low load to 2,500 RPM at peak load.

Main components:

• Variable speed internal combustion engine — diesel or gasoline, optimized for a wide range
• Electronic control unit (ECU) — reads the load in real time and adjusts engine RPM
• Injection system — precisely meters fuel at every RPM
• Integrated cooling and acoustic enclosure — keeps noise levels low even at reduced RPM

ADVANTAGES

Why choose a variable speed engine?

Unlike conventional fixed-speed engines, variable speed engines intelligently adapt to the instantaneous load — consuming less fuel, running quieter, and delivering a longer service life.

✓ 20–40% lower fuel consumption at low load
✓ Quieter operation — lower RPM, lower noise levels
✓ Longer engine life — less wear, less frequent servicing
✓ Lower CO₂ emissions

COMPARISON

Fixed vs. Variable Speed Engine – What’s the difference?

Feature Fixed Speed Variable Speed
Engine Speed Constant (3000 rpm) Adjusts to the load
Fuel Consumption High even at low load 20–40% lower
Noise Level Consistently high Quieter at low load
Engine Lifespan 3,000–5,000 operating hours 10,000–20,000 operating hours
Maintenance More frequent, more component wear Less frequent, longer service intervals
Cost Lower initial cost Quick return on investment
